Here are some tips: Filing ð Buy several loose-leaf A4 binders, not spiral-bound notebooks. Label them and don’t overfill them or it will all fall out. You may need a hole-punch too. ð Use dividers for the main topics. Set up just a few of these at first, and subdivide as you get further into the course. Don’t try to be super-organised at the beginning: develop your classification system as you go along. ð Put odd-sized papers or handouts in plastic sleeves so that they don’t get lost. If you have bulky booklets, get a box file for them.
You can also sometimes tap the expertise of salespeople in shops, on the back of a transaction: some of these are a real mine of information about their particular product. Others will know less than you do: you’ll soon find out. Practical manuals and self-help books written for the general public can also be valuable in some fields, and it is worth browsing in libraries and bookshops for them.
